Let Me Look Upon the Sun
02:41
|
|||
Let me look upon the sun
Though I know I'll burn my eyes
For I will never find
A more important sight
Than the one that leaves me blind
Take me down to the river
Let the current call my name
For the only day
On which I'll be saved
Is the one on which I'm swept away
Take me up along that narrow path
Where the way is thick with moss
For I'll only be found
If the trees grow tall
If I am truly lost
Let me look upon the sun
Though I know I'll burn my eyes
For I will never find
A more important sight
Than the one that leaves me blind

Follow Blind
02:55
|
|||
I been living on the street
Got acres on my knees
Got forests on my feet
Got oceans in my eyes
Got nickels to my name
Got no one to blame
I been drying in the sun
Been breaking on my back
Been breathing through my blood
Been shaking on the dust
Been swimming under shoes
Been swallowed up in suits
I took torture over tricks
Took chances when I could
Couldn't afford to stay home sick
Took shifts instead of sleep
Took pills instead of dreams
Took worry to my tongue
Take injustice 'cause I must
Took coal instead of color
Took gold instead of fleece
Took bells instead of horns
Took books I'd never read
Took for granted all the facets of my ease
Then days became their endless lists
Days for the sake of futures
Days came too close to cliffs
Days carried hidden knives
Cut the ropes tied to my kites
Only had to let one moment
Go slipping through my mind
Only had to let one candle
Go extinguished in the night
For the others follow blind
But I've grown accustomed to the light

Gambling Man
02:36
|
|||
A dream came to me in a song
An old machine breaking down
My fingers took on foreign signs
My lips were cracked, from forming lies
My hands were dice you shook in yours,
A gambling man, I should have known
It's better to leave when you're ahead
Than to stay till you've nothing left
I was close enough to touch the edge
Was weighed and worried, sinking sin
But I saw a bird trapped in the brush
burning nettles, holy soot
And my hands were dice you shook in yours
A gambling man, I should have known
It's better to let it go if you've got line
Than to struggle against unbending time
I'm a mess of numbers, you took my chance
Just held it like a list of lasts
Followed to the dirty end
Furrowed brow and dripping neck
And My hands were dice you shook in yours,
A gambling man, I should have known
Not to run too fast nor blink too slow
For to see the flash, for to feel the road

Each Other's Wall
04:19
|
|||
I remember the 9th grade
You and I grew up on the highway
Got lost when we turned right
Should'a turned left
Can't turn back
Oh and the headlights
Burning through the spring sky
Smoke rising in the midnight
From my hands
Can't turn back
And…
We're Eye to eye
Soul to soul
We are leaning on each other's wall
We won't abandon hope
We Live hand in hand in stone
Lean on each other's wall
You spent days surrounded
Afraid that you had drowned
Afraid you'd already had
your last chance
And we can't turn back
Yeah it's true it's all around us
But that's the reason that we're boundless
Whatever's out there
I promise,
I've got your back
Remember…
We're Eye to eye
Soul to soul
We are leaning on each other's wall
We won't abandon hope
We Live hand in hand in stone
Lean on each other's wall
I remember back in college
When we thought we had to know what we wanted
old trees rotting
We ain't broke yet
We won't turn back
Though the rain may be falling
we won't be sure until it's started
as they run
From the flood
Glancing back

Hot Water
03:46
|
|||
Hot water coming, gonna roll the canes
Old river on fire again
Thought it was clear, 'till one morning smoky
Seemed so simple, 'till all at once was broken
Winds a-weeping, gonna clear the lakes
Can't imagine drought when you're dancing in the rain
When the cards are on the table, when the coin is in the air
Hard to cross your fingers when they're tangled in your hair
But Don't worry, worker, soon they will be free
As birds of prey and toy limousines
Scalpels and chemicals, in countenance bells
Hard to see the future in the bars of your cell
From The depths of your pockets, to the shallowness of hell
The length of your promises, starting to melt
To the bottomless streets, they say "fend for yourself"
Convinced that they earned their illusion of wealth.
But don't worry dancer, soon you will be free
From the labyrinth of winning, from the staging of your glee
In the lottery of sunsets, soon will be a score
Composed in the calm at the eye of the storm
Hot water coming, gonna burn the canes
Old ocean boiling again
Thought it was clear, 'till one morning smoky
Seemed so simple, 'till all at once was broken

Whispered Tale
03:52
|
|||
I never got to meet you
Before you passed away
I'm sure if I'd been older, you'd've had plenty to say
But you were buried in the cold tones of machines drowning out your tale
All I ever heard was the fading of your health
All I ever saw in you
Was another hand to feed
Just a long drive to a another place to sleep
Not a set of eyes, and open arms, left to blink away the tears
Never really noticed the winking of the years
Feels I’m missing something,
From my shuffled deck of cards
I must have lost count years ago and now we're just a part
Of a fragile mind, like dominoes, and me, a careless kid
Ain't no surprise, like fireworks, but me I always flinch
And what you were
I never knew
I've never had
So I've never had to lose

Bliss
04:55
|
|||
When thee to dust do roam
Then I, peeling paint of windows,
Offer a nest
Rich, dirt, rest.
Worry all you want about heart attacks
Worry all, want you ignorance?
Be so blessed if you so wish.
I sunk a ship
And I took the only raft
With salvation to my back
With the wind at my neck
Worry all you want about finding land
Worry all, want you ignorance?
Be so blessed if you so wish.
There's the looming of a useless end
When we find reasons to justify our means
I say we lose ourselves like pens
And one day, we run out of ink
Worry all you want about what to write
Worry whether anyone will read it
Or be just blessed, 'cause you ain't dry yet

Bird
06:03
|
|||
Back and forth, my paddle-boat
Toe to heel, heel to toe
tidal waves, like tender nerves
neighborhoods, like seething curs
I worry plagues will strike ye down
Temperature turned up too loud
I hope you find what you want
I hope it's where you never thought it would be
And Listen, do you hear my voice
'Cause, bird, I hear yours
Early morning, or so I thought
Couldn't find the strength to knock
Opened more than 'dora's box
Spun and fell, my stomach dropped
Just like the sun burned leaves
Old magazines and florescent lights
Smell of salt and blood and life
Close my eyes as you take breaths
All our hearts begin again
Listen, do you hear my voice
'Cause, bird, I hear yours

It Gives Direction
04:13
|
|||
I know you have been here your whole life
I know you wonder if you'll ever be surprised
But I know it happens, I can feel it in your hands
I know it's summertime,
But there are shivers up my back
And I can see your breath
I wore out my shoes trying to skip the cracks
Spent a year in search of another august laugh
I know we won't go far if our tire's gone flat
I know it seems like we're stranded
but it's not like that
'Cause I can see your breath,
And It gives direction
Now as the satellites are swinging through the clouds
Like last night's fireworks brought envy to the dawn
Then as our shields, like the sand, slowly fell
It looks to last a while
So I think it will; that's what I'd bet
And I know tomorrow's tide pushes and pulls your chest
'Cause I can see your breath

I Haven't Seen It Yet
03:45
|
|||
In the cup of your neck, from which I sip
Lie hands that fingers lift.
Where the balanced slip then convince themselves they sin
Where calm is lost to quick
Where the followers of summer, and the beaten hearts in mothers
Tap their perfect pitch
In the pools and in the caves, in the shallows of your veins
I haven't seen it yet
I haven't seen it yet
In the crescent of the sky, in the roundness of the lie
In the deaf and in the blind
In the preaching of the night it's the shuttering sighs
That trace the lines.
But I am but a babe, staring at a stage
Where the players have left the light
So, in the pools and in the caves, in the shallows of my veins
I haven't seen it yet
I haven't seen it yet
In the kneading of your poems on the staleness of my tongue
Under cover and over done
In the bleeding of your luck, and the leaking of the sun
To thoughtless bluffs
With the touch of your lips, a fishing net
Wraps me in your song,
Yet, in the pools and in the caves, in the shallows of your veins
I haven't seen it yet
I haven't seen it yet

Flying Past
04:26
|
|||
I still think of the stubborn door
That I pushed you towards
The door I locked, after you had gone
That only opened to the key I lost
I thought I'd keep it close to my heart
But those kinds of secrets are much too sharp
To hold so near to a spot so soft
Setting down that key was the most selfish thing I've ever done
But the earth will forgive me
Even if I can't forgive myself
'Cause to its towering ears,
I'm a tinny yelp
Still, I'm always wondering if I'll have enough
For the next month's rent that your heart is gonna charge
Seems like you're always jacking up the price
I already sold my soul, what else would you like?
I hope I never have to gamble with your trust
You have mine, I have yours, it seems like an even start
But fairness wouldn't stop me from throwing us off course
as I pawned the time you'd given me for half of what I'm sure it was worth
But the earth will forgive me
Even if I can't earn it back
'Cause through its towering arms,
I'm just fyin' past

Leave Your Light
05:02
|
|||
Looks like the brightest suns are the first to set
Doesn't make much sense
But please, still take your chance
Shine so that the world shines back
We need your light
We always have
Cause it's all we have
Cause it's all we have
I saw your fight
Couldn't see your fear
Sometime it stings
When the labels peal
But what is left is a truer kind
A dirty sky
We lick our lips, but they stay dry
we move our tongues, but we stay quiet
If we do not act,
it can't be love
If we do not help,
it's violence
You were true
You always were
Your soaring voice
I often heard
You've gone on
I won’t pretend
But you were here
I won't forget
Now our hands are full of seeds
And rosary beads
Yet we keep them by our sides
If we don't shake, we'll never shine
For every step
You'll never take
I will take two
I'll match your pace
For every morning
That you would wake
I'll find the sun
We'll share it's weight
To every chance
And every bet
I'll give myself
I won't forget

Let the Sun Seek Me
05:07
|
|||
Let me not rot bitter in the long tick of time
Let me not lose interest in the warbling outside
No great chaos wrapped to standard length
No speck of beauty stepped over like a snake
And the lonely string
That connects us to each other
Is wrapped up in my legs
Begging me to follow
No tin, rose garden rusting to the touch
may be forgotten for what it must become
It's priceless treasure, sold as worthless stones
That vandalizes the masterpiece we wove
With that stone-like string
That connects us to each other
Tying up my arms
And bringing me to justice
Let the sun seek me when my own search ends in vain
Let it still reach my hand when I am kept in shade
With no whole truth dissolved in holy wine
No flickering lantern need spend its only light
For the fraying string
That connects us to each other
even when it breaks
Will hold the answer
